Let's face it: TV and radio stations rely on the local newspaper for most of their news. So what happens to those "rip and read" broadcasters as print staffs shrivel amid the draconian layoffs strafing the newspaper industry?

On Wednesday July 23rd 2008 the 2nd annual Toledoan of the Year awards will be handed out.

Please submit your suggestions for who you truely believe should win. Lets see how close we Bloggers can get in the following catagories. Humanitarian, Innovator, Mentor, Business Community Investor, and Leadership. Unlike the actual awards I will not hold you to their " positive " standards.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a German magazine he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months.

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible.

The city of Toledo is seeking estimates on the cost of privatizing the city's trash collection services.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner's administration is seeking proposals on a five-year contract to collect trash in all or part of the city, starting in April, 2009, according to an announcement posted on the city Web site Friday.

UPDATE: News 11 had the pictures. Now two Toledo city workers have been fired after they were caught stealing siding from a vacant home.

The city employees are Charles Weidinger and Issiah Scott. Weidinger is a former city worker who left following an accident.

Thousands of households are getting phone calls from striking workers at a nursing home in northern Ohio seeking support in their labor fight over wages and benefits.

Long used by politicians, automated or "robo" calling is gaining momentum in the labor movement, experts said.

The Toledo Free Press broke the story this afternoon and I will have Rob on with me Friday morning at 7:30a. What anyone else says doesn't really matter since they haven't been involved in economic development. And if they can prove me wrong, bring it on. I am so tired of this city/county losing good people one after the other and no one raising a voice. My voice is raised.
